Our platform is designed to help the DIY investor to build and manage a tactical asset allocation portfolio, but we understand that not everyone has the time or inclination to go it alone. To service investors looking for an all-in-one managed solution, we’ve licensed our “Meta Strategy” to best in class investment advisors Alpha Architect.
Alpha Architect understands tactical allocation, and they understand the importance of keeping costs low. They provide low cost separately managed accounts (minimum investment $250k, 50bps annual management fee). As an added bonus, investors receive a complimentary full-featured membership to Allocate Smartly for as long as their account remains active. It’s the best of both worlds.
What is Meta Strategy?
Meta Strategy is our own smart approach to combining the best tactical asset allocation strategies on this site. Meta selects 10 strategies based on a thorough quantitative analysis of past performance, and combines them together to form a single portfolio. Read more technical details and review backtested performance.
By combining many individual strategies, Meta Strategy targets exposure to effective tactical asset allocation as a whole, while reducing the risk of any single strategy underperforming.
What is Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA)?
Tactical asset allocation strategies invest in broad asset classes like stock indices (ex. SPY), bond indices (AGG), and gold (GLD). Unlike a traditional buy & hold portfolio, TAA aims to enhance returns and minimize losses by increasing allocation to assets expected to outperform and reducing allocation to assets expected to underperform. TAA strategies tend to trade once a month or less, capturing major market trends and ignoring day-to-day noise.
As an independent “Consumer Reports” if you will of TAA performance, we get the opportunity to work with a lot of very good, very smart investment professionals. Wes Gray and Alpha Architect are the crème de la crème of that universe, and we’re proud and excited to have them on board as licensees.
